Chris Hadfield, Summit & Smartsettle

On April 4, 2014, in partnership with the University of the Fraser Valley,  iCan Systems Inc. participated in a successful launch of Summit Negotiations Society. Canadian Astronaut and former commander of the International Space Station, Chris Hadfield inspired an audience in North Vancouver at the Centennial Theatre, which was packed out with more than 600 people. Hadfield said that huge conflicts existed that needed to be “smartly settled”, making reference to iCan’s gift to Summit of a world-wide license for non-profit use of the Smartsettle eNegotiation system. Summit will provide mediation and facilitation services using the Smartsettle online negotiation system. The University of the Fraser Valley was celebrating their own successful launch in 1974 with several 40th Anniversary events.

The common thread with all the parties was peacemaking and the desire to make the world a better place. Hadfield was presented with the World Peace Tartan by Founder Victor Spence and congratulated by Dr Ernest Thiessen (Smartsettle Inventor). This was the first formal presentation of the World Peace Tartan in Canada.  This is a prestigious award that has previously been given to the Dalai Lama and 7 other Nobel Peace Laureates.
